Psychological Assessments
Clearview Medicolegal provides two specialist assessment pathways — ensuring referrers have the clinical clarity they need to manage every claim with confidence.
Introduction
Psychological and neurological injuries are among the most complex to assess and manage. Clearview Medicolegal provides two specialist pathways — connecting referrers with accredited, independent consultants who deliver objective, evidence-based evaluations that hold up in any legal or clinical context.
Psychological Treatment Review
An independent evaluation of whether ongoing psychological treatment is appropriate, effective, and aligned with the Clinical Framework for the Delivery of Health Services — the governing standard for all compensable injury schemes in Australia.
Inadequate or misaligned psychological treatment is a common issue in compensable claims. Without an independent review, inappropriate care can go unchallenged — prolonging recovery, inflating costs, and weakening the integrity of the claim. Clearview Medicolegal’s independent psychological consultants bring the objectivity needed to course-correct early.
Neuropsychological Assessment
A structured assessment of cognitive function following accident-related brain injury or neurological illness. It maps cognitive strengths and weaknesses across memory, attention, executive function, behaviour, and language — forming the clinical basis for treatment planning, rehabilitation, and legal determination.
Assessments are tailored to the individual — accounting for age, injury type, and the specific cognitive domains affected. For adults, findings also address functional implications for daily activities and work capacity. In medico-legal contexts, assessments determine the level of permanent impairment and eligibility for the Lifetime Care and Support Scheme.
The following indicators apply across both psychological treatment reviews and neuropsychological assessments. If any of the below are present, an independent evaluation is warranted.
- Treatment does not relate to the injuries sustained
- Treatment is not contributing to recovery or return to usual activities
- Treatment is not being delivered by a qualified healthcare professional
- Treatment does not appear cost-effective or clinically justified
- There is uncertainty around diagnosis, cognitive impairment, or long-term prognosis
- A claim is stalled and independent clinical opinion is needed to move it forward
- Legal or insurance determination requires objective, specialist-backed evidence
